Internal corporate comms made easy with Magic Talk

Magic Talk is a unique news app and employee interface, exclusive to those who work at Africa's leading television broadcaster and entertainment business, M-Net.

The app allows for rapid delivery of company messaging and gives employees an insider's perspective of the business as a whole.

Magic Talk's previously outdated version was in serious need of an overhaul, with a new interface needing to be designed and implemented with a host of new features to be developed.

For this complex development project, Elemental were thrilled to be appointed as the development agency to build the app based on the new look and feel and functional requirements.

ENHANCED EMPLOYEE KNOWLEDGE AND INTERACTIVITY

Magic Talk's vision as an app (which by the way runs on Desktop devices as well as mobile phones), is the central point of information for all M-Net staff. It also serves as a tool with which to find out what's happening in the organisation. You can imagine that sharing company updates is especially challenging when staff are spread across the continent, yet this needs to happen quickly and somewhat hassle-free.

Magic Talk boasts features such as interactive polls, an in-app notification system, updated news articles with commenting ability, galleries of images related to shows, events and other functions.

Who doesn't love to win prizes? We certainly do and so do the M-NET staff! Magic Talk promotes interactivity on the platform, through numerous competitions which staff can interact with and stand a chance to win elusive prizes.

Finally, a staff directory tool allowing users to find the colleague that they are looking for by using filtering and searching functions. How cool is that?

INTERESTING FACTS

A key requirement for the Magic Talk app was that it is always running and open on the user's desktop, in fact, it cannot be closed. Through analytics and usage data we're able to determine that through this feature, engagement and the use of Magic Talk are outstandingly high.

Another interesting fact is that the users never need to login to their app after their initial login.

WE LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE

When we were due to release the new version of Magic Talk, we didn't want to have users needing to re-login to their account, as this would result in a big drop off in terms of users logging in and using the app.

To compound matters further many users forgot their login credentials over the years as the app always keeps you logged in. So we had to devise a clever solution that used the app's previous logged in session to keep them logged in to the new version of the app, making it a seamless upgrade when the new app was launched.
