When it comes to holiday travel, the process of finding great destinations, coupled with fun activities and well-suited accommodation can be a daunting task. Often pre-created packages are limited, which is good but not always ideal.

Nemo, an innovative travel company looking to shake up the travel industry, quickly realised this and wanted to give their users more power and flexible options when it comes to booking their dream vacation.

The Nemo website would be the platform to deliver their vision to the world.

Build it the way you want it

In order to transform Nemo's vision into reality, highly skilled expertise were required. Greenbox Designs and Elemental teamed up to produce this world class website.

Greenbox Designs was instrumental in translating Nemo's requirements into functional wireframes. The combination of a seamless User eXperience (UX) and slick design of captivating User Interface (UI) screens was key from an end-user's perspective.

Elemental was appointed as the development partner, due to their vast success and experience in developing custom built websites. Elemental's responsibility was related to the entire functionality of the project, responsible for the database design and integration, web development, testing, QA and deployment of the project.

A platform to create your ultimate dream vacation

Crafting your dream holiday starts by asking the user what their criteria is for their dream holiday. From this selection, Nemo presents top picks (trips).

Each trip contains loads of insightful information, detailing all destinations within the trip, highlights and useful tips.

Once happy with the trip, a super cool build your trip tool allows the user to customise their trip by selecting accommodation from curated establishments trusted by Nemo. Adding experiences to each leg of your journey is part of the fun in crafting your dream vacation.

Needing anything additional on your trip? No problem, simply add this as an extra and Nemo will take care of this for you.

Once done, simply enter your contact details and Nemo will get back to you confirming availability and pricing.

Other interesting features include a live chat system, an "inspire me" section with inspirational experiences, destinations and inspiration.

Interesting Facts

The Nemo travel website provides users the ability to view trips and booking options in a variety of currencies. In order to ensure that pricing was accurate and presented in a user-friendly manner, currency conversion rates were obtained and stored daily, through a third party API. Interestingly the base pricing currency was the British Pound, however users could change to US Dollars or Euros, to maintain uniformity pricing rounding was applied to ensure that prices were user-friendly and not fractions of US Dollars or Euros.

Challenges

From a development perspective a fairly complex part of the website is the itinerary builder. This nifty yet powerful feature allows website users to essentially customise and build their own trip from existing trips that Nemo offer. Each trip is comprised of multiple destinations, accommodation options, activities, etc. each of these with their own set of selectable options. Building this feature was challenging to present all these options in a user-friendly and in an intuitive way, so that users easily understand how to customise and build their own trip. On mobile devices this was even trickier as the limited screen size meant that UI compontents and features needed to be arranged and presented to users in a logical and clever way so that users were self-sufficient when customising their dream holiday or honeymoon.
