The AquaGuard web application monitors and displays water usage insights

Due to the increase in climate change, water availability is becoming less predictable in many places, such as South Africa.

Droughts are increasing water scarcity, negatively impacting people’s health and productivity. Ensuring that everyone has access to sustainable water is crucial to mankind.

Protecting this vital resource is of utmost importance and through the design and development of clever tech solutions, we are able to safeguard our water resources.

AquaGuard to the rescue!

AquaGuard is an online web application, which integrates with physical water meters to obtain water usage data.

We assisted our client to take AquaGuard from a concept to a full blown digital product. Working tirelessly with the client we designed the User Interfaces (UI) of numerous graphing screens and dashboards, used to display staggering amounts of usage data in a concise and intuitive format.

The product's appearence was as important as the development of the tech. This comprised of the integration between the web app and the water meters to obtain water usage readings.

Clever notifications were built into the platform, triggering when water leaks and excessive water usage was detected.

Summarising and presenting complex data was best done through easy to use graphing tools, with data being aggregated from years to hours, allowing users to drill down into data that is specific to their requirements.

AquaGuard is a vital product used to combat water wastage and understand water usage patterns, which can be used on desktop, mobile and tablet devices.

Through a combination of powerful visual insight graphing tools and real-time alerts and notifications, users are able to act faster and change behaviour to save water and use this precious resource more sparingly. Saving water is crucial to business owners and estate managers, resulting in direct monetary savings.

AquaGuard continues to innovate and evolve the product, by conceptualising, designing and developing new features which continue to provide value to it's users.

INTERESTING FACTS

Subsequent to the initial launch of the project, the platform has been extended to allow clients (utilities) access to a self management portal. This portal allows the management of all data elements, as well as the ability to generate reports which can be reconiciled with the local municipality.

WE LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE

The data relating to the water usage has various facets, most notably the timezone and also the region. We needed to develop the database and web application in such a way that clients all over the world, had extremly accurate access to the data regardless of their timezone.

The notifications that were produced by the system for events that were triggered used the various data and timezones in conjunction to calculate if the events were triggered.
